Beer vs. pot

The Eldest lives in a neighborhood that is adjacent to Pimlico race track in Baltimore, so the neighborhood has quite a bit of experience with crowd spillover from various events held at Pimlico: heavy traffic, saturated parking, celebratory behavior, etc.

Recently, The Eldest relates, there was a rock concert at Pimlico, and the neighborhood was filled with pot smokers. Some interesting observations: since they are not drinking copious quantities of beer, the pot smokers did not pee on the lawn, nor did they throw up on the lawn, sidewalk, and street. They were also quiet and mellow, whereas the beer drinkers quickly and continually get involved in loud arguments and fights. The pot smokers turned out to be very much into recycling, so the next morning the residents did not have to spend half a day clearing their lawns of beer cans, bottles, and broken glass.

While the people in that neighborhood might not be ready to legalize the sale of marijuana, they’re more than ready to criminalize the sale of beer.
