MS Office Substitute

CanadianWatcher pointed out in the comments the OpenOffice Suite: free, open-source, and compatible.

It always surprises me when people are so ready to turn over hard earned money for an office program that they can get for free off the net.

You can download OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org it is a replacement for MS Office and you download it for free. Don’t hesitate to donate to the developers. By the way if you use open office you will be able to use open document format and not be in the position of not being able to open a document years down the road.

This is certainly worth considering.

I have been using Open Office for over a year and find it works great. But my needs are pretty minimal so I cannot speak for all the features. My wife has the Mac version and it has met our needs.

I’ve been using openoffice for a while now (at least a year), but I fall under the “90% of users don’t use 10% of the features”. My wife on the other hand was an administrative assistant at a marketing firm for 5 sales people. She falls under the 10% that needs all the features and except for a small adjustment period she loves the suite
