The Improved Magnum Plus Peppermill

Posted in Daily life at 8:19 am by LeisureGuy

Improved Magnum

Simple improvements to overcome design defects:

1. Two thick rubber bands on top so you can grind pepper even after handling, say, a raw chicken you’re preparing to roast.

2. Tape over opening to peppercorn reservoir so that it doesn’t open and spill peppercorns while you’re grinding.

I will, of course, send a link to this post to the company. Perhaps they can ship the Magnum Plus peppermill with these modifications in place.

It might be better kitchen hygiene practice to either grind a little bowl of pepper in advance or wash your hands after handling the chicken but before contaminating the pepper ginder with raw chicken cooties. I usually get a little mise en place bowl out and prepare a mixture of salt, pepper, dried thyme, garlic, whatever, before I start wrestling with the chicken/turkey/roast/etc. The bowl is a lot easier to wash than a pepper mill for cleaning off the chicken slime after chicken prep is done.

Good point on the chicken. But even in normal cooking my hands sometimes get slick, and the rubber bands help then. I actually just got some little bowls suitable for the mise en place. I’ll start using them.
