The best archive tool — and most trusted format — is RAR, which uses the WinRAR software (which WinZip can read, I believe). Been around for many years, it’s used exclusively on Usenet by filesharers around the world. It comes with a lifetime license (bought mine in 1998!). ZIP format has not always enjoyed stability over its lifetime. Another good alternative is 7-Zip, which uses 7z, another format which is better than ZIP in many ways.
