Written for the man who wants to enjoy his shave. User comment: "I bought this as a gift for my fiancé, along with a wet-shaving starting kit and a safety razor. He DEVOURED this book, and finds himself reading it again and again. He finally enjoys shaving. This book has helped him figure out so many things about wet shaving, and has recommended it to all of his friends and family. Truly a great source of information for any man."

I’m going to try that. And probably the Knob Creek 9 year old.

Interesting study. In 195? Consumer Report taste panel rated Old Forrester the best ordinary bourbon. For mixed drinks I consider Evan Williams a best buy.
I used to be a scotch snob until I tasted Blanton’s. Too good for mixed drinks - for sipping only. Don’t care for the highly rated Knobb Creek.
Here’s the recipe for the original Old Fashioned Cocktail:
Recipe By : Marion Brown’s Southern Cookbook, Univ N. Carolina 1968

Add large cube of ice and 1 jigger of whiskey. Twist and drop in lemon peel, and stir until mixed thoroughly. Remove ice and garnish with cherry.” - Fred H Crawford, Mgr, Pendennis Club, Louisville, Kentucky
THE WAY WE DO IT
3 dashes Angostura Bitters, 6 dashes Orange Bitters, 2 teaspoons bar sugar, water to dissolve, 2 jiggers whiskey, ice to fill glass, 1 orange slice , 1 apple slice.
As of 1998 the only source of Orange Bitters is Fee Brothers, 453 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY, 14605 ph:585-544-9530

I really like Knob Creek—and Trader Joe’s carries it at a discount. I’m going to try the Jim Beam Black — and perhaps Old Forrester as well.
To avoid having water added to my Old Fashioned, I use sugar syrup instead of bar sugar. And I always squeeze some lemon peel over the top—essential. The apple slice is an interesting touch.

Glad to be reminded about the Lemon peel. I’ll add this to our practice. In my opinion the Orange Bitters are most essential.

Wild Turkey 101 didn’t make the cut! Harumph.
Gimme 101 over Beam Black anyday.

You may also want to try Old Fitzgerald. A wheated bourbon developed by the same guy who developed the old Maker’s Mark. (Maker’s Mark has been reformulated, so it doesn’t taste the same as it did.)
