Institut Karité and the Gillette NEW
Very nice shave, using the Omega 48 boar brush and Institut Karité’s 25% shea-butter shaving soap. The Gillette NEW (new in 1921) did a great job with a still sharp Bolzano blade, and then a splash of Alt Innsbruck finished the task.

Nice products! I’ve got to get me a Gillette NEW, they look so “right” somehow.

They’re wonderful, and they come in several variations.

I’ve been looking at the one found here – http://goo.gl/p6Bm
It’s being marketed as a “rare thin handled” model. I never knew these existed until I saw this. What are your thoughts?

It looks pretty good. I didn’t know about these either. I do know about the thin “ball-headed” handle: solid brass. I don’t much like those. But this one looks quite good, albeit somewhat pricey. But then you have it forever.

Yeah I thought it was a tad pricey too. What attracted me to it is that it’s in original condition, i.e. not replated. So, it’s either a NEW or a Slant (or both).

I usually go for “both”. Send me an email, and perhaps I can help.

Interesting slant on older razors.
Today I used QED Wild Orange soap and it is fast becoming a favorite. I get great lather from this soap and a great shave. The fragrance is, to me, a real winner. Did not use my Pacific Shaving Co. Oil until after the second pass. My c.1950 Gillette and a used Derby blade did me fine. Spanish Floid was an interesting finishing touch.

My wife gave me a shave stick of QED Wild Orange for Xmas, and I totally agree: a great fragrance. In fact, I’ll use it tomorrow. Tnx for the reminder.
