Weight note
My morning weight on Friday, 30 July, was 232.0 lbs (105.5 kg).
My morning weight on Friday, 20 August, was 231.9 lbs (105.4 kg).
I am so glad that I got the nutrition counselor. I would simply have given up without that monitoring and advice. We tried minimizing caloric intake, and the counselor (along with both my daughters) said that my goals could not be reached via diet alone: exercise—and exercise to the point of huffing and puffing—was essential. I finally started the exercise, and weight loss promptly resumed.
Once again I learn the lesson.
Morning weight today: 228.3 lbs (103.8 kg).

Most people have the opposite problem. They exercise like crazy but don’t restrict their diet.

FWIW, I’ve found that when I’m exercising (working in yard and garden) I am not hungry, and that if I go out and get busy in the garden, I lose any hunger I was experiencing. Of course, I can always pick a few little cherry “maters to eat while I’m out there, if there are any that seem in danger of going to waste. But that is surprisingly infrequent. This summer, Cherokee Purple is the taste winner among the tomato crop.
I just wish I liked the Chinese Long Beans better, because they bear like crazy. The okra is coming in at a great rate now, and I cook it in Pam or a half-teaspoon of peanut oil for a skillet full. No breading, just trimmed pods tossed occasionally over heat till browned all over. Beats the old-fashioned way of slicing, breading and frying in lots of grease, and still delicious.
I’m planning to join a gym this winter when I can’t get outside comfortably. That exercise business is key for me. Plus, no cheese or ice cream. That is just reality for me, and it could be worse. It does allow me to have some no-knead bread each week, but I have to watch that. It could become habit-forming, especially when I make it with fresh rosemary from the garden. I may try it next with some roasted garlic in the dough, and maybe some browned onions. How did I get from the gym to this? It is a Communist plot, I say!

I love fried okra. My grandmother sautéed it much as you do—a little oil, a lot of okra—but as I recall she rolled it in a little cornmeal first.
Like you, I no longer allow some items in the house: ice cream, particularly the single-serving pints; cheese; croutons… I don’t miss them all that much, and while I can resist buying them, once they’re here I can’t resist eating them.
A gym near work has been a godsend at various times in my life, but I really do prefer now that I’m retired to get my exercise at home if possible. The Nordic Track ski machine is efficient (lots of exercise per unit time) and readily adjustable in terms of resistance so that even a flaccid noodle like me can use it. My hope is that as my weight drops, my right knee will better bear my weight on walks (though walking is not a particularly efficient exercise, it does get me out of the apartment).
Morning weight today: 227.6 lbs (103.5 kg). It occurs to me now to have a goal of 218 lbs (99 kg—at last a two-digit weight!).
Back when I was 6’1″, 227.5 lbs was the cross-over point between “obese” and “overweight,” but things change and I now 6′ even, so I have to get to 221 lbs (100.5 kg) to hit the dividing line. Interesting that, with some rounding, I can think of 100 kg as the transition point. So all I have to do from now on is keep my weight at two digits (SI units).
I kind of like Chinese long beans, with a good sauce.

Leisure Guy! You really think a pint of ice cream is a single serving? Or was that a typo? I currently have a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Dulce Delish in my freezer. It is 4 1/2 cup servings at 240 calories each, for a total of 960 calories, were I to eat it in one fell swoop. I admit I usually eat about a 3rd of a pint at a time, a bit more than a serving. It’s too good!

One has a tendency, I found, to eat the entire container of chocolate Swiss almond while watching a movie. But mostly I was making a little joke.

“but things change and I now 6′ even”
Or you could get Rolfed and regain that inch…
