New Netflix service

with 3 comments

They’re raising the price for DVD rental and making it easier to watch instantly. From Netflix:

We now offer a new $7.99 a month plan which lets you instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV. This plan does not include any DVDs. All the titles you can watch instantly on your current plan are also available on this new plan, and as a reminder, not all titles on DVD are available to watch instantly. This new plan is available immediately – if you’d like to switch to this new plan at any time, simply visit Your Account.

  1. I was surprised when you said they were raising their rates for DVD’s because I hadn’t received any notice of this, so I visited the my account section and discovered they grandfathered in current members — as long as you don’t change your plan, your rate won’t go up.

  2. Aha. I recently changed to include Blu-Ray when available, so that’s probably what did it.

  3. Actually, I was wrong. I just got an email telling me that it was changing. When I looked earlier, it said that if I changed, I couldn’t change back so I made a mistaken assumption. It really should have just said there that it was changing.
