A full James Bond shave
Floris No. 89 for both shaving soap and aftershave. Floris makes an excellent soap, as one would expect, and the lather was ample using the Sabini badger brush. Three smooth passes with the all-Feather combo (razor and blade), a good splash of the No. 89 aftershave, and I was ready for the day—some time back, in fact, but things got busy.

James Bond?

Michael -is this vintage Floris soap or the recently reformulated Floris soap? I have heard that the Tallow Floris was a wonderful soap but that the new vegetable based Floris…well…not so much.

Didn’t Mr. Bond use a Gillette Slim Adjustable?

It’s of recent purchase. I’ll try comparing it to those I’ve had for several years.
@Scott: Floris No. 89 was reputedly the fragrance favored by James Bond.
@Guy Noir: I like to think of him using a cutthroat razor.

Floris No. 89 is indeed Bond’s favored brand. The Gillette Slim Adjustable makes an appearance in Goldfinger–Mr. Bond’s model has a few extra features.

Aha. Thanks for the link. That site is slightly out of date: Floris has resurrected the No. 89 line—as shown, you can now get the soap and aftershave in addition to the EDT.

That is good news if a recent purchase. Perhaps they have perfected their reformulation. I love the Floris scents and if the soap performs…win/win

James Bond did indeed use a st8 (alteast the one from the 70′s novel). It is a Russian one that he got from a dead assassin and he goes to Taylor of Old Bond Street to get it sharpened. He does indeed wear Floris No. 89.

Hey leisureguy, I’m just curious… Do you pat dry your face before applying aftershave or do apply it to a wet face?

At the end of the shave at the sink, I rinse my face (hot, then cold), dry it, and apply the aftershave. Applying aftershave to the face while it’s still wet would be a good trick for those whose skin is sensitive to alcohol-based aftershaves or who want the fragrance diluted a bit.
