umm…hmmm…let’s see now..looking for the right answer…oh yeah, right ! ….”When they put those Dictators, Tyrants and Torturers into power”… ??? (Marcos, Shah, Pinochet, Trujillo..and those are just the one’s from way back….the current list is endless…)
Yeah, you’re right. Perhaps it’s just as well that American power is starting to crumble. OTOH, the problem isn’t, I think, the US. It’s humanity. As a species, we do it to ourselves. Our early excursion into routine torture by the military was already in place by the time we were waging a war of aggression in the Philippines. And, of course, the genocide of the native Americans (something the Spanish, for all their cruelties, didn’t do—or were not so good at it as the US) is a glaring blot on the face of the US as is its love of slavery—so strong it took a war to put an end to the hateful institution, long after other nations had turned away (though worldwide, slavery seems to be alive and well—I suppose so long as the weak lack power they will be made into slaves).
There was a topic that was alluded to several days ago on a post and would of thought you would of been rather intrigued by it, but then, perhaps you either dismissed it as innuendo or were busy on other matters. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/07/floating-gitmo/ So i thought that you might want to read a little more, it gets better as you scroll down and don’t be discouraged by all the complications that they refer to as they are easily overcome … enjoy.
Very true, very true…The implications of this tendency could be very unique when one considers that these vessels sail in international territorial waters, subject to no real humane treatment oversight. How do you get a Red Cross or Red Crescent rep. or other humane org. on to one of these vessels? In my opinion, the whole issue of floating Gitmo’s is just in it’s infancy, Admin lawyers no doubt are seriously looking into this unique and clever circumvention of current restrictions. These ADF’s (Amphibious detention facilities, my term) could in my opinion be the wave of the future as the cost of security and man power may be considerably lower by retooling old freight and Navy vessels.
Great gift for bar mitzvah, for graduation, for Father's Day (17 June 2012), for birthdays, ... for guys who shave but do not yet enjoy the task.
User comment: "I bought this as a gift for my fiancé, along with a wet-shaving starting kit and a safety razor. He DEVOURED this book, and finds himself reading it again and again. He finally enjoys shaving. This book has helped him figure out so many things about wet shaving, and has recommended it to all of his friends and family. Truly a great source of information for any man."
A perfect gift for a man who answer "Yes" to "Do you shave most days?" and "No" to "Do you actually enjoy shaving?" Give him a chance for happiness in one frequent task.

I remember the comment about the floating prisons, but I didn’t remember the link. Thanks for the repeat. The article is horrifying.
