Bad temporary side-effect of surgery: bad taste
I find a strong metallic taste in my food. I had this once before and finally figured out I was drinking too much of a packaged lemon juice: when I stopped that, the metallic taste went away. This time it started with the eyedrops, so I’m pointing the finger at those. (Drain into nasal cavity and sinuses, I would guess.)
Worst case I’m off of these in six weeks, and some I will discontinue sooner. Hope it’s those that are the villain.

Here Michael, this may help… http://www.ehow.com/how_5718893_rid-mouth-optivar-eye-drops.html it discusses and offers solutions…eating just after or drops whjile eating and another is …you will like this remedy …drink a glass of wine … hope this is of use …

Good things to try. I in fact had a glass of (red) wine, but it still had the awful taste. But in time it will pass.

Perhaps your doctor can recommend a different eye medication. My post operative drops are Prednosolone, Nevanac, and Vigamox. I never experienced and after taste.

Good thought. I am taking the Prednosolone as well, so that suggests it’s not the villain. The others are Bromeday and Zymaxid. The Bromeday is once daily only, so my suspicions are now directed at Zymaxid.
I just looked through side effects and didn’t find the bad-taste thing, but I did note that Prednosolone can cause vertigo, which might explain the episode of that I had the other evening.

Pine nuts can also cause that metallic taste.
