Best holiday cookie ever
These are terrific after being stored for a day or two—not so good right out of the oven. Highly recommended.

I don’t doubt they are wonderful. Reminds me of KENTUCKY WHISKEY CAKE, a family favorite for over 60 years. http://blogs.courier-journal.com/recipes/2011/04/29/the-original-kentucky-whiskey-cake-or-cissy-greggs-kentucky-bourbon-cake/

After searching 5 grocery stores in Greensboro, NC today, I finally located the candied cherries for this recipe ($25!!!). The hooch was easy. I hope to make these by Sunday. I am not going to eat (many). They should make great gifts. Thanks!

Yeah, they’re an expensive cookie. Pecans also are not cheap. It makes barely enough dough to bind the cherries, citron, pecans, and raisins together. The lumps look pretty weird on the cookie sheet, but they sort of condense as they bake and come out fine. Again: they taste so-so right out of the oven. Force yourself to let them cool and then put them in airtight containers for two days, and then eat one. This may have a bearing on the size of the gifts, if you get my drift.

Currently, the first three ingredients are in the KitchenAid, (a $40 yard sale find, XCLNT) but not getting light and fluffy. Will soldier on.
