Rosy weekend

A BBS shave of great enjoyment. I do like rose as a shaving fragrance, and the Rose Otto shaving soap from Queen Charlotte Soaps is quite wonderful. With the Ecotools Kabuki, I got a wonderful lather after the usual slightly longer loading period—just 5-10 seconds longer, but my brush usually is fully loaded in 10-15 seconds so the extra time is noticeable: sort of an extra beat in the process.

Fragrant, thick, and wonderful, that lather worked like a charm for three passes of the Edwin Jagger Lined Chrome razor holding a newish Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge blade. I was almost BBS after the second pass, so the third was mostly polishing.

A good splash of Savory Rose from Saint Charles Shave to finish the job, and I’m set for the weekend.

Bonus points to those who guess the shaving soap I will use on Monday, and more if you can guess the aftershave. You know my methods; apply them.

  1. I am moving away from the bowl and starting to face lather. Thinking about getting a new brush for this purpose and would appreciate a recommendation. I have a Kent BK 8 Silvertip and a Semogue Owners Club Boar.
    Thanks for the help,

  2. I had a Kent BK8 which I replaced with a BK4, which was for me a better size. I suggest that you pick up an Ecotools Kabuki as shown in the post. About $7.50, and extremely nice for face lathering. Another good brush would be a horsehair shaving brush—and BullgooseShaving.net also has a good selection.

For a badger that’s good for face lathering, one of the 22mm Whipped Dog silvertips (you choose the handle) is $26 including shipping with a resin handle. It’s a very nice brush. And HJM black synthtetic brushes (scroll down to see the HJM brushes) are excellent and $25 including shipping. (US residents don’t pay VAT.)

  4. Maybe it’s just me, but the HJM link didn’t work, and I thought you would want to know. No problem, I’ll go find it at connaught.

  6. The muhle synthetic is all I use and can recommend it. I would have guessed a president day theme soap. Your methods are usually themed on holidays.

  7. I can’t resist using Special 218 on 2/18.
