Ah yes, guitarists and bassists have long history of playing classical warhorses, from Richie Blackmore’s Bach quotes with Deep Purple to Frank Zappa’s riffing on Holst and Liszt to Yngvie Malmsteen’s speed metal arrangements. Dave Brubeck and John Lewis from MJQ know all about this, of course.

    This young bassist is pretty impressive, although it was hard to tell from the clip if his playing was 100% clean.

    A year or two back, an anonymous young guitarist released this Utube video of his arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon (why is it always the most overplayed stuff?) He has some serious chops, and an interesting technique–note the way his right pinky waggles around free. Here it is.

    It spawned dozens of imitators. This one is pretty exceptional, although he seems to be more involved in showing off his admittedly stunning technical skills.
