Slant Bar and coconut

with 3 comments

Geo. F. Trumper Coconut Shaving Cream this morning, and a fine fragrance it is when you’ve been with Aubrey and Maturin in the tropics only the evening before. The Rooney Style 1 Size 1 made a rich lather, and the Merkur Slant Bar with whatever blade it has (Iridium?) did a fine, smooth, effortless shave. And for the aftershave, St. Johns Bay Rum seemed the logical choice.

I’m doing a little poll on SMF on the Slant Bar, and as of this morning:

If you’ve used both Slant Bar and HD, what do you find?
Essentially no difference between them
28%
28% [ 4 ]
Slant Bar noticeably better than HD
50%
50% [ 7 ]
HD noticeably better than Slant Bar
21%
21% [ 3 ]

  1. I’d love to participate but Giovanni has had my order for a SLANT BAR fo 24 days. A follow=up email and phone call have not produced anything yet.

  2. I got the Slant bar a few months ago, based on your suggestion. I like it a lot, but I find it is a lot less forgiving than the HD. It certainly has made me a better shaver. I find that on the occasions where I don’t want to worry about cuts or scrapes or am in a hurry, I use the HD and on the other times I use the slant bar.

So I guess I can’t say which I prefer, but they are quite different and enjoyable in their own ways.

One thing I can say: I love your blog. It is always a pleasure to read!

  3. Thank you very kindly. And if you continue to explore, you may find a blade that’s “just right” for your Slant: one that acts smoothly and yet is comfortable and doesn’t nick.
