More on being prepared

leave a comment »

I just saw a very useful post on one aspect of the topic “Be Prepared.” In preparing yourself for a possible layoff, it’s important to attend to your professional development and education and also to network with people in your field. One way to do both is to attend important conferences in your professional area. But conferences cost money, and your company may not want to pay. I have found, though, that companies will willingly let you attend on your own dime: that is, they’ll cover your salary (and maybe even some of your expenses) provided that you pay the conference fees. suggests how you might be able to attend important conferences for free.
