More US marijuana arrests than ever

with 2 comments

And yet, strangely, it doesn’t do any good. Should we rethink our approach?

Jacob Sullum notes:

According to FBI figures released today, about 873,000 people were arrested on marijuana charges in the United States last year, 5 percent more than in 2006 and a new record. This is the fifth year in a row that marijuana arrests, which are up 167 percent since 1990, have increased. In 2007 marijuana arrests accounted for nearly half of the 1.8 million drug arrests; as usual, the vast majority of the pot busts, about 775,000, were for simple possession.

  1. weed is a plant and can be used to replace lumber and cotton and even be plastisized which when done right its stronger than most materials used for cars right now. not to mention it has many medical uses one of which is a cure for depression. some say it can’t help depression but that’s not true. anyone that has ever committed suicide while smoking pot also used other drugs one of which would be alcohol a legal substance much more harmless and useless than weed.

  2. continued from the above post weed has also never killed anyone. golfballs have killed more people than weed because weed hasnt killed anyone. It would take more weed than your body weight within something like 2 hours to kill you. and if you did that with anything it would kill you.
