Walk to the Clock Tower

with 5 comments

There and back, 2.61 miles, 51 min 02 sec: 3.07 mph. Of course, if I keep it up, the time will improve.

UPDATE: Here’s a view of the clock tower:

  3. On 4 July 1955, I walked the 17 mile drive along the shore from Monterey to Carmel. Worst moment was when some idiot in a red Mercedes threw some firecrackers just behind me.

  4. You must have been at Fort Ord then—like Clint Eastwood.

  5. No; I had gone west for the summer at the end of the freshman year at the institution. Several of us – John Chase, Dorik Mechau, Jerry Cartier & I – rode out there with John Bremer in his Chrysler. We spent a couple of days at the Mechau home in Colorado. Dorik remained there and the rest of us went on to Los Angeles. I found a job with the forestry division of the California state government as a firefighter at the Tularcitos Station in the Carmel River valley. It was an interesting summer.
