The Grosvenor Boar-Badger combination brush again today—I rather like it. A good soak in hot water in lavatory while I shower, then I worked up loads of fragrant lather—Sweet Gale is no nice that I try to fill the bathroom with the fragrance—followed by three smooth passes of the Apollo Mikron carrying a Swedish Gillette blade.

Phil of Bullgoose Shaving sent me this aftershave to try, and I like it: light crisp fragrance.

  1. Michael, are there any colognes or aftershaves that have “safe” ingredients? I remember seeing a link to an article, here on your blog, regarding the toxic chemicals that are in modern fragrances. I have been sticking to witch hazel, but I would like to expand my horizons.

  2. I feel quite safe with the aftershaves I use, but the choice depends on what one wants to avoid. Parabens, for example, are generally thought to be good to avoid. But the regular line of aftershaves that appear in the blog: they work fine for me, and I know of no reason to avoid them. However, skin sensitivities and allergies vary greatly from person to person, so to some extent you have to find out what works well for you.
