Eucris again—better this time

with 8 comments

Yesterday’s use of Geo. F. Trumper Eucris shaving soap, which apparently is not well-liked, was okay for two passes, but the lather faded for the third (which I still managed). Still, it was a new brush—first use of brush (a Lijun) and Eucris—so I decided today to go with Old Reliable, my Rooney Style 2 Finest.

Once again I simply held the puck in my left hand and brushed it briskly with the wet brush. This time I loaded the brush at length—no third-pass falling-off for me, thank you—and got a good thick lather.

No problems this time: three passes of plentiful lather. Those having problems might try extended loading—and I do have the benefit of fairly soft water.

The Feather Premium stainless razor—model AS-D1, I discover—did its usual fine and comfortable job. Like my iKon razors, the Feather is noticeably comfortable, and with it the Feather blades are both efficient and kind.

A splash of Saint Charles Shave Sandalwood aftershave, and I’m ready for the day.

  1. I enjoy my Eucris’ thick lather, extra slick, close shave and nice fragrance, but it is hard to load in a brush and I have only a few of the more expensive pucks to compare it with. YEAH !! on the Rooney.

  3. I can see I’m going to have to give Eucris another shot.

  4. The secret (so far as I can tell) is to go for an extended loading. I don’t know how soft your water is, but Monterey water is pretty soft. Might try it with distilled water, just as an experiment.

  5. Just finished my first puck of Eucris using different brand name brushes and sizes. I never had a problem getting a good lather. Really loading the brush is the way to go. I always managed to get enough lather for my normal three passes and then some. I will definitely order another puck. Water in my apartment is neither hard nor soft. Face lather or in a scuttle much of a muchness.

  6. Eucris works even better with a quality Boar brush. And, I totally agree with Michael, definitely give it an extended load.

  7. Reading this article gave me some hope on the Eucris, I was about to give up on it… other Trumper like Rose, Violet and Limes are performing much better compared to this.

  8. Good point: I should try Eucris side-by-side with those. But on its own, it worked fine (with the extended loading).
