This is the “before” photo

with 11 comments

This is The Wife writing. The photo above is Leisureguy just before they wheeled him into surgery. “YES” marks the eye they did the work on. Not sure if you can tell from the photo, but he has a spectacular bruise below the eye, from an injection yesterday.

The surgery was successful (according the surgeon – obviously LG can’t see anything yet). There were 3 tears in the retina and there’s a gas bubble now holding everything in place. LG has to sit/sleep face down for 24 hours, and then will be stuck on his right side for a few days after that. So it will be a little while before he gets back to regular blogging.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. LG says “Don’t jerk your head during cataract surgery!” – you can use the photo above as a deterrent.

Sugar-free coleslaw

Bob Slaughter in comments pointed out this tasty-sounding, sugar-free coleslaw recipe from a kosher caterer in Bucharest.

Wee Scot, Martin de Candre, and Alt-Innsbruck

with one comment

Back to photos, I think. The break did me good, but now to carry on.

I wanted a very nice shave for the surgery, and I’m still experimenting with the Nancy Boy pre-shave oil, in which castor oil is a featured player:

Castor oil, olive oil, meadowfoam oil, sweet almond oil, essential oils, borage oil, kukui nut oil, carrot oil, Vitamin E

I washed beard with MR GLO and took my time rubbing in a few drops of oil. I loaded the Wee Scot well with Martin de Candre and also took my time working the lather into my beard. (No breakfast this morning, so time to kill.)

My Fat Boy holds a Kia blade, which is like the Tesco blades in being perfectly blank. I was sort of startled when I checked the brand to see a blank blade, but then I remembered.

I noticed this time the lavender-mint fragrance of the Martin de Candre: really got a solid hit today.

A three-pass shave, quite nice, and then a little drop of Alt-Innsbruck balm rubbed into a remarkably smooth face. 🙂
