This is the “before” photo

This is The Wife writing. The photo above is Leisureguy just before they wheeled him into surgery. “YES” marks the eye they did the work on. Not sure if you can tell from the photo, but he has a spectacular bruise below the eye, from an injection yesterday.

The surgery was successful (according the surgeon – obviously LG can’t see anything yet). There were 3 tears in the retina and there’s a gas bubble now holding everything in place. LG has to sit/sleep face down for 24 hours, and then will be stuck on his right side for a few days after that. So it will be a little while before he gets back to regular blogging.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. LG says “Don’t jerk your head during cataract surgery!” – you can use the photo above as a deterrent.

  7. You don’t look all that bad; in fact, you look very brave prior surgery. I think the “yes” written on your face next to the eye to be operated on was a good idea.

Thank The Wife for keeping us posted and taking good care of you. Looking forward to resumption of your interesting and thought-provoking blog.

Many wishes for a speedy recovery and good outcome.

  8. Glad you came through well! Suspect you’ll soon be telling people you find the right to be uncomfortable and confining! (Weak political joke, but it’s early!)

  10. Ach, I’ve been away for a couple of days and missed the excitement. Hope you’re healing well and managing without reading. That’s one of the bugaboos with retina surgery: they don’t want your eye to move back and forth.

There’s always video blogging, but eh, well, forget it… nevermind. We’ll be fine right here, waiting for your return. Don’t rush the healing thing, okay? We want you well.

  11. Here’s to The Wife — she’s a real champ. Thank you for keeping Michael’s fans informed — he’s a lucky guy to have so many people care about him. I offer her my best wishes, as I know from experience how hard it is to see your beloved spouse in the hospital; bless you, my dear.

Michael is a real trooper. Look at that bruise under his eye, and he is still smiling. What a guy! I suspect he is tougher than the LG name may suggest. Why didn’t he write NO under the eye not being operated on. 🙂 Hmmmmmm

PS — There are some among us who might have taken the opportunity to “stir up the soup” by saying that the bruise was inflicted by The Wife. Of course, that couldn’t really happen in this case, as she herself wrote the blog entry.
