Coconut Rose

with 5 comments

Today I chose the flattop Vie-Long badger, which seemed to have trouble maintaining a lather from the Geo. F. Trumper Coconut shaving cream, which normally is totally reliable. May be a problem from brush shape—I’ll try a different brush next time. Still enjoyed the fragrance of the lather and its efficacy, but I did have to return to the tub a couple of times.

The iKon OSS asymmetric razor did its usual fine job, though I swapped out the Swedish Gillette blade after the first pass—just seemed to be not quite up to snuff—and finished the shave with a new Gillette Rubie blade.

Three passes, a splash of Trumper Coral Skin Food (the rose of the title), and I’m enjoying a wonderfully clean apartment: the cleaning ladies were here yesterday.

  1. A couple of days ago you mentioned just enjoying things and things that happen just for their own sake. Rather that trying to repeat something just look on it as lifes good fortune. WellI ordered some Razorock classic after your review of their XXX, which seemed to be out of stock everywhere from The Shaving Shack via amazon. Guess what turned up instaed of the classic, yes a tub of the XXX shaving cream soap. So one guess what my SOTD will be tomorrow!!

  3. @ Jo 55: Feather blades work well for me in the Feather stainless weather, but not so well in most razors—at least, other brands work (for me) much better.

  4. I too was looking for a rose shave today and decided to build a super lather of GFT coconut cream and Kells Original English Rose soap. Although I got no coconut smell in the later(the rose was too strong), it was possibly the best alther I have ever built! Just exploded.
