Shaving with the Toggle

SOTD 9 July 2013

A really fine shave today, with a BBS finish.

Whatever the reasons for not getting quite the lather I wanted with my first use of my shaving soap from Al’s Shaving, today’s was perfect. The difference is possibly the brush, but I suspect the first lather was not quite the ticket due to operator error. At any rate, today’s lather was as creamy as I could ask, and I do in fact think the Morris & Forndran brush was a significant help. This is my “other” M&F brush: very like the one I used yesterday, just a slightly larger knot.

So loads of thick, creamy lather applied to my beard, still wet from being washed with MR GLO. Then three passes of the Gillette Toggle holding a Swedish Gillette blade of several uses—but still sharp, and I didn’t replace the blade.

A good splash of Creed’s Green Irish Tweed (actually, several sprays into the palm of my hand to get enough for aftershave purposes), and the day begins.

In other news, Molly is in at the vet today for a teeth cleaning and possible tooth extraction: Maine Coons tend to have dental/gum problems. I selected for myself a British Shorthair (Megs is a British Blue) after quite a bit of study of cat characteristics. British Shorthairs are a very healthy, sturdy breed, with no characteristic weaknesses. I’m just saying.
