BBS, using German slant

Excellent shave. I tried Corn Huskers Lotion—basically, jellied glycerin so far as I can tell—and it didn’t seem to add much to the shave, but I did use my Dr.-Bronner’s-and-emu-oil preshave beard wash. Perhaps if I hadn’t used that the Corn Huskers Lotion would have been an improvement. Tomorrow I’ll try CHL as my only prelather beard prep.

I got an extremely good lather from Prairie Creations tallow + lanolin Gentleman’s Pipe shaving soap. These shaving soaps are really excellent, and if you’ve not tried one, you’re in for a treat.

Three passes with the German slant to a BBS result. This slant is not quite so comfortable as the two bakelite slants, but not bad at all. I like the curve of the head.

A good splash of Floris JF, and the day begins. I bought four interesting squash (sugar pumpkin, golden nugget, Delicata, and Kabocha. I’ll probably roast them and then perhaps make a soup—one squash at a time.

  2. I’ve heard of Corn Husker’s Lotion described as a poor man’s Trumper’s Skin Food. I find it helps to soothe razor burn, but I only use it if I’ve had a particularly rough shave. What is your take on the varieties of Astra Blades currently produced? There is the Green/ White and Blue/ White packaging. I believe that Green is Superior Platinum and Blue is Superior Stainless. Are they both a “best blade” for you, or can you tell a difference between the two?

  3. I think the Astra Superior Platinum is better for me than the Superior Stainless, but both are good. I also really liked the Keramik Platinums and am sorry that they are no longer made, so far as I can tell.
