A quick shave: Meißner Termonia Indian Flavour shaving soap with HJM brush, and an excellent shave with the Above the Tie S1. No photo, but very good result.

  1. Although I have yet to hear a confirmation from Above the Tie if their S1 and R1 are identical except for the slant and torque … the S1 and R1 are supposed to be very similar. Have you done side by side comparison?

  2. They seem quite similar to me. Good catch. I would say that they seem to be more similar than the 34C and the 37C.

  3. For you, that you have several synthetic brushes, which you think is the most floopy?

  4. None are the least bit floppy. Indeed, I don’t have any brushes, natural or synthetic, that tend to flop over when wet or filled with lather.

It may be that you want to know which synthetics are softest, that yield easily to pressure. That (to my mind) is quite different. The angel-hair synthetics are, for the most part, quite soft and pleasant on the face. The exception is the angel-hair synthetic by The Grooming Company, a brush which has lots of backbone and is thus quite unpleasant to use.

My version 1 HJM brush is also very soft and pleasant to use, but version 2 is not quite so nice (IMO).
