Very smooth result, with the fragrance of a Rusty Nail

SOTD 25 Sept 2015

A very nice shave, and Essence of Scotland’s Sweet Gale responded extremely well to the HJM, giving me as creamy a lather as it’s ever offered—and with the scotch whisky plus heather honey fragrance of the Rusty Nail cocktail.

This is the second scotch whisky shaving soap this week. I once had other shaving soaps with spirits-based fragrances: dry martini, gin and tonic, and piña colada all come to mind, though they were sold off in previous cullings of the collection (and speaking of culling the collection, I have now two final boxes of soaps from the most recent culling, a good way to get a variety of excellent soaps: $40 for 10, including shipping). Previous purchasers feel free to comment. 🙂

With a well-lathered and luscious-smelling beard, I set to work with the Edwini Jagger razor shown, and soon enjoyed once more the pleasure of a BBS result.

A big splash of Aquarius, and we can see the weekend, lying in wait for us just ahead.

  1. How does that brush compare with the Plisson L’Occitan knot?

  2. They’re both very nice. This is version 1.0 of the HJM; the current version is more resilient (and less pleasing to me). I’ll use both soon and be able to compare.

  3. If you want some Quality and Variety in your shaving soaps, latch on to Michael’s sale! I did and was very pleased

  4. Since comments were invited, I’ll say how delighted I am with the soap-surprise assortment I bought from Leisureguy’s latest collection-culling. As a noob, this is a great way to cost-effectively jump-start my learning curve, and try different soaps that I’d probably never think of. Over a long weekend, I got to sample 4 of them, all winners. Priority mail got the box to me, literally from sea to shining sea, in two days.

  5. Delighted that you like it. They are indeed good soaps—I have strong moral reservations about even giving away a soap that doesn’t work, much less selling it. So these are just good soaps that I do not have room for.

    Any favorites yet? 🙂

  6. So far, my favorite is the TFS Tabacco Verde; it seemed to erupt into beautiful lather that was definitely a factor in the BBS shave I got. The other 3 I’ve tried so far, Strop Shoppe Teak Wood, Stirling Spice, and Honeybee Coffee Mocha, all were close runners-up. I had the benefit of a 4-day Friday-Monday weekend, so I had time to learn the loading/lathering characteristics of each. The challenge is deciding which to try next. I’ll work through them on the weekends. for the luxury of time. Workdays, I’ll revert to the VanDer Hagen that I started with, and can lather in my sleep. 🙂

  7. TFS is quite good. That one went into the box because I discovered I had two, so I still have one. 🙂
