Wunderbar shave two: Astra Superior Platinums work better for me in this razor

The Fine Classic brush shown, a favorite, made a very fine lather from Fine’s American Blend shaving soap. I continue to find making and applying true lather to be enjoyable, whereas canned foam represented nothing more than a task.

I frequently say that any new razor requires renewed blade exploration and that you must experiment somewhat to find the optimal angle. (The latter step is often accomplished unconsciously: you use the razor for a while and it seems to get better, almost as if it were “breaking in,” though in fact you are simply unconsciously adapting your technique to the razor’s requirements.)

So today I used an Astra Superior Platinum blade, which turned out to be—in this razor—noticeably more comfortable than yesterday’s Personna Lab Blue with no loss of efficiency.

Three passes, BBS result, no nicks, great shave.

A splash of Fine’s American Blend aftershave, and the middle of the week is suddenly here.

  1. How does it compare with the X3?

  2. I am still learning the Wunderbar and finding the right blade for it, so I’m unsure. However, this morning I plan to shave with the X3 to remind myself of what that is like.

  3. The Wunderbar is a good razor but I am looking forward to the X3 and lack of blade feel…it sounds smoother to me, with a lighter head than the Wunderbar, which is a bit heavy and big.
