Omega Pro 48, Mike’s Natural, Merkur Progress, and L’Orange Noir
Someone mentioned that they had trouble face-lathering with the Pro 48, so I thought I’d give mine another go, since I’ve never had a problem. And again it seemed to work fine.
Mike’s Natural Soap is quite thirsty. I did the thing of adding a little water (by moving the tip of the brush through a slow stream of water from the hot-water tap), working that into the brush until no water is visible, then repeating as needed. Since the Pro 48 has a big knot, fully loading it turned out to mean I added a driblet of water four times in the process of loading, but then the knot was fully loaded and the lather was excellent.
The Progress is, in my opinion and experience, the best razor Merkur offers. As I note in this post, the Progress is pretty clearly a cost-engineer version of the Apollo Mikron, which is similarly excellent. Three passes with the Progress produced a BBS result without effort.
A good splash of Fine’s L’Orange Noir and the weekend begins.
