Other law enforcement news
From Radley Balko’s list of law-enforcement links today, these two:
- Baltimore cop says his fellow officers stopped backing him up after he reported a colleague for shooting an unarmed man.
- A woman who was detained by Border Patrol agents, then subjected to an “observed bowel movement,” vaginal and anal probes, and an X-ray has been awarded $1.6 million in damages. The authorities were looking drugs. They found none. The Border Patrol agents won’t be paying it, though. Nor were they disciplined.
The first of those is exactly why the small percentage of police who truly are villainous continue to act as police: because the police vigorously protect any of their number who is a criminal and punish any member of the police who reports criminal wrongdoing by police. It’s much the same mindset as other armed gangs, like the Mafia: the code of omerta is strong.
