Van Yulay’s After Dark with the iKon X3

with 3 comments

I gave in and bought a full tub: the After Dark fragrance was just too appealing.

Cinnamon, leather, cypress, sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, patchouli, lavender, mandarin orange, musk, benzoin, vanilla, apple, cedar and bergamot.

This is not a tallow-based formula, but since it includes emu oil, it is not vegan:

Stearic Acid, Aloe Vera, Coconut Fatty Acid, Castor, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut-Emu-Babassu-Olive-Argan-Jojoba-Oils, Calendula, Extracts, Poly Quats, Sodium Lactate, Allantoin, Silica, Liquid Silk, Bentonite Clay, Essential Oil, and EO’s and Fragrance.

The lather was excellent, worked up today with my G.B. Kent BK4 brush. I worked in additional water on my face, and probably could have added even more, but I stopped when the lather seemed satisfactory.

The iKon X3 on the UFO handle is a superb razor, and three easy passes left a smooth face without a trace of trouble or stubble.

A splash of After Dark aftershave finished the job. I like Van Yulay’s aftershaves quite a bit. They’re alcohol-free and cast your eyes on the ingredients:

Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Abyssinian Seed-Emu-Red Castor-Evening Primrose-Rosehip Seed-Oils, Comfrey, Calendula, Tepezcohuite, Oat, Marshmallow, Green Tea Extracts, Liquid Silk, and Fragrance

Again: not vegan, but very good.

  1. Unable to resist RAD and spurred on by your reviews & SOTD an X3 head is on its way. Guess a 12 step program for Acquisition Disorder is indicated!

  2. I’m finding the X3 effective against RAD (though I do buy slants to test), and I think at the end of the Great Razor Purge (to resume in September) I may end up with just the X3.

  3. Didn’t believ it could be better than my beloved 102, but you are correct. Close and comfortable!
