QED Special 218 with Fine Classic, and the Parker Variant

The Fine Classic quickly made a terrific lather from QED’s Special 218. The puck is dark, possibly because of pine tar. I’m not sure that’s an ingredient, but the soap does have an excellent pine fragrance.

The Parker Variant did a very fine job. Soon I’ll have to do a side by side shave using the Variant and the Merkur Progress.

A good splash of Krampert’s Finest Bay Rum finished the shave in quite a satisfactory way.

  1. Do you find the Fine Classic, at 20mm knot x 56 mm loft, well suited to face lathering?

  2. Works perfectly well for me. Note, however, that I like a soft knot and have learned how to work with it and have no problem at all in creating and applying lather. Some prefer stiffer knots, and learn to work with those.
