Another Solstice: Barrister & Mann with the Rockwell R4

Another fine shave with another good soap bearing the name “Solstice,” this one from Barrister & Mann. This one has quite a different fragrance, described by one user as “lemon, black pepper, and real damask rose absolute with just a touch of cooling peppermint.”  This is one of the soaps that B&M make from time to time; currently, it’s not on their web site, but I imagine it will return, perhaps for the summer solstice.

The lather was excellent, and the Rockwell razor with the R4 baseplate did a very fine job: comfortable and efficient, with no problems at all.

A splash of Barrister & Mann Reserve Classic, and the day is launched.

  1. What do you think of the B&M aftershave? I’ve been looking at that very one.

  2. It’s quite nice. It does have a “classic” fragrance and it feels good on the face, more than a simple alcohol-and-water splash. The bottle is also quite nice: a certain heft and feels good in the hand.

  3. Good to know. Do you find the scent mild and non-lingering? I’m all for face conditioning ingredients but wouldn’t mind an aftershave going easy on the scent for a change.

  4. Scent is not strong to begin with and doesn’t really linger. I put it on this morning, and I cannot smell it directly (though that may be because I’m habituated to it—but Phoenix Artisan Cavendish, for example, I can still smell later in the day—not strong, but present).
