  1. I hear that some carbon activated shave soaps could be good. Did your hear about them.?

  2. I have used Cement, a soap made by LA Shaving Soap Company for Standard Razors, and it has activated charcoal in it, which results a gray color that is probably the reason for the name. It’s a fine soap—here are my impressions—but it doesn’t seem to be currently available.

    I suspect the charcoal is more a marketing idea than something that makes a noticeable difference in soap performance, but marketing ideas can be enjoyable in themselves: cf. the stamped impression on Tallow + Steel soaps (or Meißner Tremonia soaps): no effect on performance, but very nice in themselves. Another obvious example: label designs. Chiseled Face, for example, has substantially improved his labels over time.
