Filmstruck and I: A new streaming service featuring good movies (e.g., the Criterion Collection)

leave a comment »

I read about Filmstruck.com in an article in the NY Times. I’ve already signed up. I use an Amazon Fire TV Stick, and it works with that; in fact:

FilmStruck is available online, on mobile devices, and select TV platforms including the following, with additional platforms and devices coming in the future.

• Desktop
• Android Handsets and Tablets (OS versions 4.4 and higher)
• iPhones and iPad (OS versions 9.0 and higher)
• Amazon Fire TV (OS versions 5.0 and higher)
• Apple TV 4th Generation
• Chromecast (Generation 2 and Ultra)
• Spring 2017: Roku
• Mid 2017: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

So far so good.

From the NY Times article:

I have lately been spending less time on Netflix, and more time on a new streaming service, FilmStruck, which includes the holdings of TCM and the Criterion Collection. On the site, there are neither stars nor thumbs, as if to say: While you may or may not “like” every film here, we think they are all worth your time. This I like.

UPDATE: I sent this message to support:

With Netflix, my wife and I share a plan, and we each have our own queue. Does Filmstruck have this sort of thing?

Message went out at 11:41; at 12:38 I got this reply:

For the moment we do not have a sub account system up and running yet but it is being developed and there is no time frame for release as of today. Your wife and yourself can still share an account as it can be streamed in up to 3 different devices at the same time.

Good answer, and quickly delivered. So far, so good.
