No shave: Too hot

with 5 comments

Global warming comes to the Central Coast. Temperatures high (Santa Cruz was 106ºF yesterday), and home air conditioning in this neighborhood, right on the Bay, is nonexistent because it has never been needed. It’s needed now. But in three weeks I’ll be in our new apartment in BC on Vancouver Island. Hoping for cooler weather. They’re having a drought, but we have a lot of drought experience from the past few years and have our routines down pat, along with low-flow shower heads, etc.

  1. Michael, I remember reading that you were bearded for many years. Back then, did you shave your lower neck? In general, how did you trim/ maintain your beard? We have recently moved to a different house, and with all of the upheaval involved in that, I have grown a beard for lack of spare time. However, I am shaving my lower neck to stay employed.

  2. Yeah, I kept my beard pretty well trimmed. Bushy beards don’t appeal to me. I used a cartridge razor on neck and high on cheeks to shape the profile, and scissors to keep it a reasonable length. In Iowa City for a while I had a barber who did a fine job of beard trimming and shaping. Until my mid-20’s or so I couldn’t grow a very good moustache, so had an Abe Lincoln sort of beard, but once the moustache grew in I had a full beard.

  3. Noticed the temperature in the Central Coast and Bay Area over 100. I’ve have been in San Francisco when the temperature went above 100. My office was in the Russ Building on Montgomery, no air, you could open the windows! Uncomfortable in the San Diego area the last few days too. 100 on Miramar Road where my showroom is, fortunately the air is working well.
