New brush, new razor, and oh my! A great shave

with 5 comments

A while back Manuel Vazquez, who writes Refineria de Caballeros, a shaving blog, wrote to ask me if I would be interest in trying a new razor. I replied in the affirmative, and yesterday I received quite a package that I will be going through over the next several shaves.

This morning I used one the Yaqi shaving brushes included, and I like this one because it glories in its synthetic nature, deliberately being totally non-natural in appearance. The cammo handle is sort of a joke, because the knot is not camouflaged at all: it is so clearly synthetic—and it is also a wonderful knot. It made an absolutely fantastic lather from my D.R. Harris Arlington soap, fully realizing the great potential of a D.R. Harris soap. It’s the sort of lather that motivates you to make an effort to remember this soap.

The razor is a double open-comb (both baseplate and cap), and it belongs in my list of favorite razors, being exceptionally comfortable and exceptionally efficient. It’s this Yaqi razor, and I see that Yaqi makes quite a collection of razors. I’ll be updating my list of recommended razors, and the Yaqi collection deserves a close look. The prices are quite reasonable.

Three passes left a perfectly smooth face, and then a splash of Arlington to finish the job.

Thanks to Manuel for the introduction to the Yaqi line.
