Move-out complete

Today was spent in getting the final clutch of stuff out of the old apartment. In the course of the afternoon, I saw several examples of this tree on one block — a stunning bright yellow. No idea what it is, but this is what it looks like in spring:

What a great shave!

with one comment

An instance of shaving perfection, so far as I’m concerned. Everything came together:

  1. Two-day stubble
  2. Very pleasant synthetic brush — handsome, and with good feel and performance
  3. An exceptional shaving soap — Phoenix Artisan’s CK-6 formulation — with an exceptional old-timey fragrance
  4. A stellar slant

The lather was really amazing, perhaps because I was more fully awake to appreciate it. I woke up at 6:00am and then did that thing where you drift in and out of sleep and dreams, feeling as though you’re adrift on a lazy river on a perfect day, until 7:30. Then I got up and read and ran through my Anki cards until I felt like starting the day. (It’s a holiday here, so there’s a sense of relaxation in the entire area.)

I loaded the brush at some length, and I’m still struck by the nature and quality of CK-6 lather: a thickness that almost like clotted cream. And the Lilac & Fig fragrance somehow was exceptionally appealing this morning: an unrushed fragrance.

This vintage Merkur slant is legendary. I keep hoping another trove will be found in some warehouse, but it seems doubtful. Surely Merkur must have the molds. Why don’t they make it again?

After three passes my skin was exquisitely smooth — and also soft and supple, thanks (I imagine) to the magic of CK-6’s ingredients:

Potassium Stearate, Glycerin, Potassium Cocoate, Aqua, Potassium Kokumate, Sodium Lactate, Potassium Shea Butterate, Potassium Castorate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Cocoa Butterate, Potassium Avocadoate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Capuacu) Butter, Astrocaryum (Murumuru) Seed Butter, Platonia Insignis (Bacuri) Seed Butter, Parfum [Fragrance]

Details here about the role of the unusual ingredients.

A good splash of Dapper Doc’s Lilac & Fig aftershave finished a wonderful shave on a good note. Phoenix Artisan aftershaves have some staying power, which I like, so I’ll enjoy a whiff of the fragrance now and then through the day.

This is what shaving should be for everyone.
