La Toja and the (original) Game Changer

with 5 comments

La Toja has a great backstory, which I recounted in a previous post, and the soap makes a great lather and does seem especially good in its effect on my skin. The original (.68-P) Game Changer is for me a wonderful razor, and three passes did a fine job. A splash of La Toja aftershave, and here we are at Christmas Eve. Have a good day!

  1. Well, I will say it if no one else does:

Merry Christmas, Michael! And I look forward to reading your blog into the next year. I will be lurking out there in internet land, like most of the fans of this blog and perhaps commenting from time to time.

  3. Well it’s Christmas Day morning here in the UK and looking forward to my Christmas shave. Michael, thank you for your shaving posts although I don’t comment on every one I still read them all. I have you to thank for my heaving bathroom shelves, full of wonderful smelling soaps, aftershave and balms. I really look forward to that hour of calm in my own shaving world each morning and that’s down to you, your blog and your book. Thank you.
So, to you and yours wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas and a better 2021. Keep well and stay safe.Tony.

  4. Thank you very much for your kind words, Tony. And I know exactly what you mean about the pleasures of the daily pleasurable ritual of shaving. I was able to help someone here directly this Christmas. In our little James Bay neighbourhood Facebook group, someone posted about a man who recently moved here from back east, a 40-year-old guy who had no family and no local friends and who, in a time of pandemic isolation, faced a lonely holiday. She asked whether any could contribute some sort of gift that would bring some holiday cheer.

A 40-year-old guy who needs something that will cheer him up? and ideally a source of daily cheer, rather than a once-a-year thing? The answer to me was obvious, and I had the tools at hand. So I packed up:

    • A copy of the current (7th) edition of Leisureguy’s Guide to Gourmet Shaving
    • A new Razorock DE1 razor (the Baili 171), still in the box (I keep a few on hand).
    • A good synthetic shaving brush
    • Two tubs of good shaving soap, one with its matching aftershave
    • A round bar of MR GLO, brand new in its cellophane
    • My Nik Is Sealed in its box
    • A variety of brands of blades in 5-packs (Gillette Silver Blue, Astra Superior Platinum, Voshkod, Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge, Derby Extra, Wilkinson Sword, Treet Platinum)

As I packed it, I had the hope that it would bring the feelings he had as a child when Christmas brought a pile of new toys to play with. 🙂

Best wishes to you and all my readers, with high hopes that the coming year will be better for everyone than 2020 has been.

  5. Michael, that was a most outstanding response to a brother in need!
