Dr. Selby’s from down Uruguay way

Dr. Selby’s 3X Concentrated Shaving Cream — which in the tub has the look and feel of soap and which produces a really first-rate lavender-scented lather — no longer seems to be available in the US. It was imported from Uruguay, and I’m pleased that I have a tub on hand. The tub design is very pleasing — a retro appearance with the practical feature that the cap can serve as a pedestal base.

I will say again for emphasis that the lather Dr. Selby produces is truly excellent. It made my little horsehair shaving brush feel honored, I’m sure, to bear such lather. Fun fact: Uruguay’s national capital, Monteviedo, just across the bay from Buenos Aires, is the southernmost national capital in the Western Hemisphere, and only two national capitals in the world are farther south.

Three passes with the Henson Shaving’s remarkably good AL-13 left my face totally smooth — and I feel sure the Moisturizing Pre-Shave and Dr. Selby helped considerably, because my skin is not only smooth but also soft.

A splash of Diplomat aftershave, with a couple of squirts of Hydrating Gel mixed in, and I’m ready for the day, and a sunny one it is, too.

The tea this morning is Murchie’s Lavender Cream: “The robust black tea base is rounded out with calming flavours and aromas of lavender and vanilla.”
