Your car runs on water? Hah! Mine runs on air.

with one comment

Probably we’ll soon see lots of oneupmanship in how clean one’s car runs. A car running on air is going to be hard to beat. Maybe a car that runs on dust bunnies (aka house moss, etc.)…

The Prius pays off

leave a comment »

When The Wife was getting a new car I campaigned strongly for the Prius, because I thought that Peak Oil was near. This was almost 4 years ago. Now, with gas prices surging (I saw regular at $4.50/gal. yesterday), it’s clear that the Prius was the best choice. Details here give cost of ownership over a three-year period, via Lifehacker. But the key is shown below—cars, left to right, are Prius, Accord, and Civic, and the mileage estimates are the revised, combined EPA estimates from fueleconomy.gov.

Aptera again

leave a comment »

I was thinking about the Aptera and how it was classified as a motorcycle—and then I recalled that motorcycles with a single driver can use the carpool lane. Brilliant! California stopped issuing the stickers that allowed high-mileage cars (e.g., the Prius) to use the carpool lane with only the driver aboard, but the Aptera wouldn’t require a sticker!

Then I saw that they already knew that.

I want one.
